A heartwarming video that reveals the moment a 22-year-old Nigerian student put the country name and Igbo culture on the world map has surfaced online and was welcomed with overwhelming reactions.
Somtochi Ugorji, a Nigerian-born student emerges Loyola Marymount University’s best-graduating student.
Ugorji who was the valedictorian of the US university at the 2023 graduation ceremony, was able to absorb the crowd into his Igbo heritage during his speech. He proudly identified himself as Nigerian and emphasized his cultural heritage.
He said; ““My family is from the Igbo tribe and in our culture, we have a phrase called ‘Igbo Kwenu.’”
Elaborating further, Ugorji explained that in Igbo land, the phrase ‘Igbo Kwenu’ serves as an endorsement and agreement. It represents the collective strength and unity that the Igbo people share.
He went on to teach those present how to respond whenever he chants ‘Igbo Kwenu’, and they did.

restoring_womens_confidence: Wow! This is the type of spirit we are talking about. I am Yoruba but you need to see the way I am grinning from ear to ear just watching this. I am proud to be a Nigerian. Thank you for putting us on the global scene. Igbo kwenu!!!!! Igbo Amaka!
adelakuntufayl: May you stand before kings and queens to make yourself, friends, family and over 200 million Nigerians proud. God bless every Nigerian out there using their platform to change the narratives. 🔥🔥🙌🙌🙌👏👏❤️❤️❤️.
everything_queensley: So Satisfying to watch , proudly Igbo ❤️💯.
babajideedges1: I’m proud of this brother! He wore the badge of his identity & culture to the biggest stage of his life yet. A true export ❤️. This is to the young parent out there that would rather slap a western name & identity on their children. This is to young Nigerians who threw away their identity/indigenous name after they landed abroad. This is to Nigerians back home who would rather pretend not to know how to speak with their own language & dialect convincingly for them not to be called local by other fakers, champions of classism and colonial slaves.
I hope this young man, Somtochi Ugorji inspires you to introspect & be proudly African/Nigerian/your-tribe again where ever you find yourself.
9jawoman: Oginiiiii!!! Odogwu di na nwa! Go son!!! 👏👏👏Igbo kwezuenu!!! ✊🏾.

So I join him to say Igbo kwenu,Igbo kwezenu o lol.
